THERMACOAT
Metal
Treatment is the ultimate lubricant that protects all of the moving
parts with a polarized layer of oil molecules that resist extreme
friction, temperature, and wear. THERMACOAT ·
Increases
Bit (and other downhole equipment) life. THERMACOAT
penetrates
the metal and forms a molecular bond. THERMACOAT
is
safe! THERMACOAT
significantly
reduces friction and both adhesive and abrasive wear. LUBRICATION and WEARAbrasive wear occurs on metal through one of two means: Two-body or three-body abrasion. Two-body abrasion occurs when a hard, rough surface slides against a softer surface, scoring and eroding it. Three-body abrasion occurs when abrasive particles slide between two moving surfaces, embedding in the softer surface and cutting the harder surface. The most severe condition occurs under high pressure where sliding metal surfaces may weld or seize under extreme load. It is generally accepted that proper system
lubrication has a profound effect upon abrasion and hence, the useful
life of lubricants separate moving surfaces with a thin film that can be
sheared at low resistance without damaging surfaces.
There are different lubrication modes and these can be
distinguished by the thickness of the lubricant film. CHIEF MODES OF LUBRICATION HYDRODYNAMIC
LUBRICATION: This mode of lubrication completely separates the moving surfaces by a continuos film. This type of lubrication relies on the fluid properties of the lubricant, especially the viscosity. The higher the fluid viscosity, the thicker the fluid film and the better the protection of the moving surfaces. Since the surfaces are completely separated and never
come into contact, no wear occurs in this lubrication mode.
However, when abrasive particles migrate into the system,
abrasive wear occurs and the mechanical system performance is
compromised. BOUNDARY
LUBRICATION: This mode of lubrication produces a thin film that may become thinner after time, causing the two moving surfaces to come into contact. The type of wear caused by this contact is referred to as adhesive wear, galling or scuffing. THERMACOAT: WHAT IS SO GOOD ABOUT
IT AND WHY IS IT SO DIFFERENT? * THERMACOAT
IS APPLIED UNDER HEAT AND TEMPERATURE! 1.
THERMACOAT
HAS UNUSUAL
PROPERTIES! THERMACOAT
is a
completely new technology. As
such, the closest affinity is with the family of high-quality synthetic
motor oils. It
has absolutely no resins or particulates (such as P.T.F.E., metals, etc.)
which can seriously damage bits and other equipment.
Once it has treated the metal (which occurs rapidly as an ionic
bond), friction is dramatically reduced.
The metal at the surface is transformed to a complex metal
compound that is highly resistant to friction, corrosion and rust.
The effect of the THERMACOAT
treatment is a metal surface that has a much-reduced
coefficient of elasticity.
On a steel surface (8620 steel) tested with an atomic force
microscope, the coefficient of elasticity
was reduced by a factor of 16.8 times.
This “stiffer” surface provides the friction reduction.
The treated metal surface must wear off before more THERMACOAT
is needed. In most bits, this can take 4 times the normal bit life or
more. Mud changes have no
effect on the capability of the treated metal surface to continue to
provide benefits. THERMACOAT
is
compatible with most water based, inverts and synthetic based drilling
fluids as well as gear oils, hydraulic oils and greases. 2.
THERMACOAT
IS EXTREMELY SAFE! THERMACOAT
is
manufactured in a chemical reactor.
The resultant molecular structure is very dense and stable.
Since THERMACOAT
is applied to the metal in our factory and since it forms a
mono-molecular bond with the metal surface, no adverse environmental
effects are seen. It cannot
cause harm to metal surfaces (it actually protects them). 3.
THERMACOAT
WORKS IN ALL MUDS AND IN THE PRESENCE OF WATER,
SOL- THERMACOAT
has
the unique ability to work in the presence of water, solvents and other
contaminants. It does this
by giving the metal its own lubricating ability.
Oil contamination destroys the oil’s ability to provide the
necessary film strength for continued lubrication.
The THERMACOAT
treated metal surface can provide its own lubrication despite
severely contaminated environments.
As for solvents, THERMACOAT
continues to provide friction protection in the presence of
such solvents as methanol, ethanol, naphtha, toluene and acetone.
THERMACOAT
improves efficiency and extends the life of equipment. 4.
